About WayTruthLife
Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”. WayTruthLife is a course, several years in the making, created by civil servants for civil servants and beyond. In its original format, each session has talks from well known church leaders and experts, which are accompanied by a time of reflection and practical exercises.
Why wellbeing?
We believe wellbeing is not only important for individuals, but our nation. According to a report by Deloitte, the total annual cost of poor mental health to employers has increased by 25% since 2019, now totalling between £53-56 billion in 2020-21. But we want to look beyond cost, to the person, who may only find help in Christ.
When looking at the World Health Organisation’s definition for mental health, we believe Christianity has real solutions for wellbeing:
Mental health is a state of well-being where every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.
World Health Organisation
The Bible is honest about there being difficulty in life, whilst offering paths to find peace, purpose and hope. However, Christian teaching does not just help us to find peace for our own lives, but goes beyond this to encourage us to bring peace and hope to the world around us.
Lord make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
St Francis of Assisi
History
Originally in 2019-2020, WayTruthLife sessions were the vision of a couple, one of whom was co-chair of UK Christians in Government. CIG is the umbrella organisation for civil-service churchgoers. She and her husband were interested in church inner healing ministries and felt that God would bless wellbeing sessions for churchgoing civil servants and others. They felt that God would use the specialist inner healing model of ministering indirectly to people by getting them to focus on God and getting them to deal with God in a safe church service style environment. Effectively people have the space to reflect on God in a gentle feeling way. The initial pilot programme was run in January and February 2022 by civil servants from in and around the leadership of Christians in Government UK. At the time, some of those running the pilot programme were also inspired by the process of setting up an outreach offshoot of CIG UK called CIG International, and this arguably made the course much more ambitious in reaching out to churches and other organisations.
Attendee Experience
In practice, WayTruthLife is an intellectual journey set to some church music and a main talk, as well as some commentary from the organisers. The attendee is left to contemplate his or her life in the light of a positive spiritual experience.
Sessions can be attended individually, there is no need to do a whole course. Although it was initially conceived as an in-person church experience, the pilot programme was run online. Originally it was designed to be run before/after work or during the lunch break. We were encouraged by the feedback.
‘Content was great! Worship was great! Thank you – really helped me in the middle of my working day and I was better for it. ‘
‘I have been struggling with mental health problems lately… I benefitted immensely from the session on finding peace in the middle of a storm as it has felt like I was in the middle of a storm lately. I felt that the holy spirit touched me in the session. I have been sleeping better since and am holding onto faith that my healing will be made more complete with each passing day’.
‘Another perfectly timed, spirit filled session. Brought me down from a bout of debilitating anxiety at work and restored my ability to work, as well as my soul. Thank You. Praise God!’
Feedback from the first series
WayTruthLife vs contemplation
We believe WayTruthLife is a tremendously gifted ministry, which helps people to achieve personal breakthrough. The ministry itself has a gifting, and this separates it out from other ministries that would also have their own gifting. As such, WayTruthLife is in our view quite different from a period of contemplation or a standard church service. We encourage you to come and experience it yourself.
Conceptual Framework
WayTruthLife Wellbeing explores wellbeing through a ‘Way Truth Life’ framework.
While Jesus describes Himself in the Bible as the ultimate Way Truth and Life, we apply the framework to wellbeing as illustrated in this diagram.
Why .club?
We did not plan to use .club, but as WayTruthLife is such a popular website name, .club was one of a few options for website names. However, it draws out a key aspect of the WayTruthLife vision: the power of the collective in wellbeing.
WayTruthLife wellbeing sessions are designed to be experienced in a group – whether at home, or online, or in person. The Bible speaks of the positivity of people gathering together: as Jesus said ‘where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them’.
There is a further collective aspect to the WayTruthLife vision. We designed these sessions for civil servants, but would be happy for this to be used as a resource, if others are interested. We are therefore posting the videos for free use. Please see our policies section if you would like to host WayTruthLife sessions. In time, it would be amazing to create a club of those interesting in WayTruthLife wellbeing.
This is our vision for WayTruthLife wellbeing sessions. We hope you will join us on this journey.
